We are pleased to invite you again to the Loews Ventana Canyon Resort for the 2010 North American Tang Shou Tao Annual Conferences.  This year marks the 20^th Anniversary of our Association and we hope you all will join us with your families to celebrate.  Please see below for information regarding each conference.  To attend these events, your NATSTA dues must be current.

ACCOMMODATIONS:
For the most complete martial family experience (and general all around fun!) we encourage everyone to stay at the conference hotel, the Loews Ventana Canyon Resort.  It is one of the top resorts in Tucson, Arizona, located at the base of the Santa Catalina Mountain range in Northeast Tucson.  The special rate we were able to negotiate for our group is $89.00 (plus 12.5% tax) for single or double occupancy per night. Fees for additional guests apply.  Call (800) 234–5117 to make your hotel reservation and mention that you are with the NATSTA Annual Conference.  In order to take advantage of this special rate you must make your reservation by July 1, 2010.  Check-in is at 4:00 p.m. and check-out is at noon.  If you need a roommate, contact NATSTA Headquarters at <info@natsta.org> for help.

TRANSPORTATION:
By car from Phoenix:
Follow signs to Interstate 10 going east.  Exit I-10 on Ina Road, turn left and head east.  After several miles the road changes into Skyline Drive and then to Sunrise Drive.  Continue past Swan and Craycroft Roads. Turn left at Kolb Road and continue 1.5 miles.  Loews Ventana Canyon Resort is on the right.  Turn Right on Estes Way.  The distance between Phoenix and Tucson is approximately 95 miles or 2 hours.

By car from the Tucson Airport:
Depart Airport heading North on Tucson Boulevard.  Turn Right on Valencia Road and travel 2 miles.  Turn Left on Alvernon Way heading north.  Alvernon will feed into Golf Links Road East.  Follow Golf Links to Swan Road and turn Left.  Travel north about 8 miles to Sunrise Drive.  Turn Right on Sunrise to Kolb Road.  Turn Left on Kolb Road and travel 1.5 miles.  Loews Ventana Canyon Resort is on the Right.  Turn Right on Estes Way.  Driving time is approximately 35 minutes.

2010 INSTRUCTORS CONFERENCE

Open to only Instructors, Assistant Instructors, and those being promoted to Assistant Instructor
This Conference is open to all NATSTA Instructors and Assistant Instructors.  You are responsible for the cost of your hotel room and food, except for the banquet provided on Saturday night.  Please remember to bring your personal weapons.  The Conference will begin at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, August 4th with Gongfu Medicine and go through noon on Sunday, August 8th. Conference registration will be between 6:45-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 4th; and 8:45-9:00 a.m. on Thursday August 5^th.   However, the training room will be available for open training beginning at 1:00 pm on Wednesday.  There will be a dinner break from 5:00-7:00 p.m.

PROMOTION:
Instructors recommending a student(s) for promotion must fill out, sign, and send in a promotion form.  If you are a Member or an Assistant Instructor and feel that you are ready for promotion, you must coordinate with your Instructor to ensure that the appropriate forms are completed and submitted by your Instructor on time.  Please be aware that the promotion fee is not considered a guarantee of promotion and you must attend the Conference and banquet to be promoted.  For information on specific requirements for Assistant Instructor and Instructor in each art contact the Committee Chairperson:  Shen Long Xingyiquan– Jarrod Lash at <jarrod_85704@yahoo.com>; Liang Zhenpu Baguazhang–-Sean Orlando at <sean.orlando@gmail.com>; Gao Yisheng Baguazhang–-Ben Scharfenberger at <benbeejammin@yahoo.com>.

Requirements for promotion to Assistant Instructor: Attend Instructors Conference, pass TCM Level I exam, Forms Review by qualified reviewer prior to Instructors Conference, and fee of $150.00.

Requirements for promotion to Instructor: Attend Instructors Conference, pass TCM Level II exam, Forms Review by qualified reviewer prior to Instructors Conference, and fee of $250.00.

(Forms Review for promotion is preferred to be conducted PRIOR to the date of the Instructors Conference.  We realize, however, that this is not always possible and arrangements can be made to do Forms Review at the Conference, if necessary.  You will need to coordinate with your Instructor to have this review performed by a qualified reviewer, other than your primary Instructor.) The fee for Assistant Instructors or Instructors receiving a certificate in an additional art will be $100.00.  If the certificate represents a promotion, the fees above will apply.  For example, if you have an AI certificate in Shen Long Xingyi and are now getting an AI certificate for Liang Zhenpu Bagua you only pay $100.00 instead of $150.00.

TCM LECTURES:
TCM lectures and exams have been scheduled throughout the Instructors Conference.  TCM Level I is the requirement for Assistant Instructors, Level II is required for Instructors, Levels III-V are optional for Instructors and Assistant Instructors.  For reading lists for the TCM Levels, please see the TCM section of the NATSTA Website.  If you plan to take a test at this Conference, please come prepared.  Lecture time will be used to expand upon or clarify ideas, not to explain them.  If you have any concerns, contact Greg Steerman at <gsteerman@hotmail.com>.

BANQUET:
A banquet will be held on Saturday night and certificates will be presented to newly promoted Assistant Instructors and Instructors.  Recipients must participate in the Instructors Conference and be present at the banquet to receive their certificates. One banquet meal is included with registration.  Please indicate your entrée preference on the registration form.  Additional banquet guests are $50 adult/$12 kids 12 & under.

2010 NATIONAL SPARRING SEMINAR

Open to all members at all levels (Please note if you are registering for the Instructor’s Conference, you do not need to register for the Sparring Seminar.)

A banquet will be held on Saturday night for all members.  One banquet meal is included with registration.  Please indicate your entrée preference on the registration form.  Additional banquet guests are $50 for adult/$12 kids 12 & under.

2010 NATIONAL MEDICINE CONFERENCE

Open to all members at all levels
In keeping with the tradition set at the Instructors Conference of allotting time for each of the NATSTA martial arts, the Medicine Committee has decided to present material from Jin Shou Tuina, Craniosacral therapy and Thai massage at this year’s Medicine Conference.  In addition, we will be highlighting some of the other methods that form important components of NATSTA medicine by offering presentations on Wrist Ankle Acupuncture, Hand Acupuncture, Back-Shu Points, Gait Analysis, Auriculotherapy, and Foot Reflexology.  All the presentations will be offered in a format that includes lecture, demonstration, and practice.  The material presented will be intended for NATSTA members at all levels and our goal will be for everyone to be exposed to material from several systems that they will be able to take home and practice through the following year.  Depending on interest and enthusiasm in each area, we plan to continue by offering more advanced material from several systems, as well as the results of members’ research projects, in future years.  Please show your support for these groundbreaking efforts to expose members to both the breadth and depth of our medicine by attending the conference in this commemorative 20th year anniversary of our Association’s formation.

BANQUET: A banquet will be held on Saturday night for those registered for the Sparring or Instructors portions of the conference.  If you are coming early and would like to attend the banquet, the cost is $50 for adults/$12 kids 12 & under.  Please indicate your entrée preference on the registration form.
